Roto Process for A02
I wanted to help Assist with Roto to allow Sydney to spend more time in the actual composite rather then tedious Roto. I used a combination of tools and tricks to try and do as little manual roto as possible. I started off using MODnet from the Cattery. I also used a combination of background Matting and difference keying but MODnet was the primary tool I used for the bulk of the initial Roto for Ruby (in dress) and Amelia(Holding skittles). For Ruby I used roto paint to clean up chattering and filling holes and because the set extension was a very similar color to original footage wall I was able to get away from some rough roto on the hair. For Amelia I used MODnet for bulk but also used After Effects Roto brush to isolate the skittle bag and Roto brush for Amelia’s arm. After that all the separate mattes were merged and exported as a .exr sequence to use for the Alphas in A02.
Lighting setup for Frame
After we found the new footage for A02N I needed to relight the frame to match the new environment to make it feel more natural and aesthetic. I found reference on how the actual Museum has light and wanted to recreate as accurately as possible for a seamless match.
We planned to remove the doorway and have our painting be in the center where the doorway would be. I used this for my lighting reference and camera setup for lighting the frame.
We decided for more visual interest to go back to the original Hallway look with our painting in the center of the footage in the other room. The lighting was similar in both rooms so the relighting still fit in both areas. Saw’s color correction also made it fit and match even better.
