The Mill x SCAD
Week 1 : Sept. 09 - 15
Team KESS: Kulin Mehta (Look-Dev), Eva Chan (FX), Sydney Relkin (Comp/DP), and Saw Htoo (Lighting).
Main Topic: CG Food (Feature some CG food. Can center around the food or be an element in the spot)
Team KESS ideation: Right from the start, our team had two idea both revolving around candy. First idea was to make a potential Snickers ad. The second idea was to make a potential Skittles ad.
The Snickers storyboard follows an exhausted hiker in the forest who is extremely hungry. He finds a Snickers on the ground, eats it, and becomes rejuvenated. His mood lifts as he realizes that he had been at work the entire time, but his hunger caused him to imagine he was in the forest.
Storyboard Artist: Lin Lin
We all ultimately liked the idea of doing something with Skittles more than the Snickers, we still however wanted a better story for our Skittles ad.
We all Decided to go back to the drawing board and revisit the story aspect of our Skittles Ad. We wanted to for sure really emphasize the idea of bright and vibrant colors from the skittles and wanted to really showcase the ‘Taste the Rainbow’ slogan.
After looking at lots of Skittles ads and how they market and promote the product, I drafted up a new Storyboard encompassing the new story of “DaVinci sits alone, with his nearly finished black-and-white masterpiece. His eyes land on a single red Skittle among the color-less ones on his palette. Curiously, he places it on his canvas, and instantly, vibrant colors (reds, purples, oranges, yellows, and greens) spread across the artwork. He steps back, realizing the red Skittles has brought his world to life.” This storyboard was then revised and redrawn by Eva’s friend Lin Lin who is mentioned above.
After finishing our story boards we wanted to do a quick Previs test to better understand the Shot count, what would be live action vs CG and the overall structure of the Ad. The previs was made with a combination of footage Sydney filmed and quick houdini flipbook test done by Eva and I.
